About

Our goal is to encourage academic excellence and friendly competition among students of the classics. Latin Club is a branch of the National Junior Classical League. Team members compete in a league which enables them to compete against students of Latin from other area middle and high schools in topics related to the classics such as mythology, vocabulary, grammar, and Roman civilization.

We meet in Room 402 on Mondays during the months of October through March.

Speech Tournament is an annual Barrington 220 event for students in grades 4-8. To participate, students need to find an adult to mentor and coach them, a script they will enjoy performing, and fill out a registration packet. Students can work alone and have a solo performance, or they can work in pairs, or groups of four. The tournament is usually held on the first Saturday in March. The district purchases speeches for students to select from and they can be found with the School Coordinator on their Speech Tournament Schoology Group.

Any students interested in participating in the Speech Tournament this year please join Mrs. Ortiz' Schoology page to get a copy of the Speech packet. The registration link is in the packet if you decide to join the tournament. Registration is due on December 22, 2021. If you have any questions after reading through the packet, please email Mrs. Ortiz at sortiz@barrington220.org. 

Students are judged in several categories. Ribbons, participation certificates, and copies of the judging sheets are then provided the week after the tournament.

Mission Statement

All kids need a place to belong. Art club will serve as a relationship incubator for kids who are interested in Fine Art, while also giving them the opportunity to further develop their artistic skills and express their unique ideas. 

Who

All Prairie Students 6-8, who are committed to participating and contributing positively to the club. Each group will be limited to 20 to provide the best possible experience for each student. If more than 20 sign up, we will have an A and B “Team,” and they will attend on alternate weeks. Students will be provided with transportation on the activity bus.

What  

A Choice-Based Art Club. The student members will drive the content and activities undertaken in art club. The sponsor, Ms. Jimenez-Bure, will provide optional instructional demonstrations and materials. Students are encouraged to use the time to create their own meaningful artwork in a fun, social space. No grades will be assigned, and any homework will be completely optional.

When

Art Club takes place after school from 3:40pm to 5pm. Art Club is the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month!

Drama Club is designed to familiarize theatre students with acting as well as the technical aspects of theatre, including but not limited to, set design, lighting and sound design, building and creating props, costume design, publicity, stage crew, and theatrical makeup. Through projects and main stage productions, students will gain the confidence and techniques needed to become a THESPIAN!!

Any and all are welcome to be a part of the club at any point throughout the year. Attendance is NOT mandatory. It is a 'come if you can' on Drama Club days. 

Fall & Musical productions for actors and techies are audition only. Cuts are made for productions. The cast/techie lists will be posted after auditions.

Friends & Company is a special club that fosters relationships among students. All students are welcome. Meetings take place on Tuesdays once a month. Questions? Contact Peggy Aliperta at paliperta@barrington220.org and Michaela O'Neill moneill@barrington220.org. 

Gamer's Club has a multitude of activities including video game events featuring games played on the WiiU, Playstation 3 and X-Box 360. In addition, we have board game events, media editions where we watch videos on social gaming topics as well as "Life Skills for Gamers" which focus on topics relevant for everyone including balancing work and play. The Barrington Middle School band department offers students the opportunity to participate in an instrumental program dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in music through performance.  

While band is a graded class that meets during the school day, there are additional outlets in which experienced musicians can express themselves and use their talents. The band program offers Jazz Band and Pep Band as after school music activities. 

The Jazz Band is a select group of approximately 20-25 musicians chosen by audition which plays a variety of repertoire. The ensemble is comprised of saxes, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section. Performances include the BHS Jazz Festival as well as gigs here at Prairie. See Mrs. Byte's web-page for detailed information and rehearsal schedules. 

The Pep Band plays for Prairie home basketball games during December and is open to all interested band members.

About

National Junior Honor Society is a club for 8th graders who demonstrate scholarship, citizenship, leadership, character, and service. Students must meet a minimum requirement for NJHS which is: a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher for 7th grade. To be invited in January, students must receive a GPA of 3.7 or above for 7th grade and the first semester of 8th grade. Click here for FAQs! 

Future NJHS members

8th graders will receive their invitations at the start of the school year for NJHS.  Service hours completed before the application process will NOT be counted toward the required service hours for NJHS, with the exception of work completed with for the Prairie library.

The Prairie Pen accepts original student poetry, short stories, artwork, and photography for our two issues (fall and spring).  Students are welcome to submit throughout the year for feedback and will be notified of his/her submission status within two weeks. Welcome to the middle school robotics club! This club is open to all students in middle school who are interested in learning about the exciting field of robotics. We will explore the basics of robotics and programming, and work on building and programming robots using a variety of tools and technologies. Whether you are a beginner or have experience in robotics, you are welcome to join and learn something new. Get ready to have fun and be challenged as we delve into the world of robotics together! What is Snowflake?

Snowflake is a unique opportunity for middle school students to come together in an informal setting to teach valuable skills that develop healthy peer relationships, promote responsible decision-making, and resist negative peer pressure. SOMOS (Club Latino) is a club that works to create an environment for all students to explore the Latinx/Hispanic culture specifically within Prairie. Our club also allows members to openly converse about current events, pop culture and history in pertinence to the Latino/Hispanic community in a safe group setting. The club not only provides representation for all Latino/Hispanic students but extends opportunities for all students to have a better understanding of the Latino/Hispanic history and heritage.

Student Council is a student organization focused on promoting school spirit, providing school activities, and giving support for clubs and other organizations at school. The Student Council's aim is to assist students and teachers in making school more meaningful by doing the following: 

• Providing social activities, student special events, and promoting school spirit.
• Working to facilitate better relationships between students and staff, with other schools, and within the community.

Are you interested in editing or taking photos? If so, then the Prairie Yearbook Club is the place for you! The Yearbook Club will meet after school in room TBD once a month on Mondays October to February - to create and arrange content for the annual yearbook. Then, we will meet again in late May at a "Distribution Party" to view and distribute the finished yearbooks and celebrate our accomplishments. Any interested Prairie student is welcome to attend. Please look at the Prairie calendar for specific scheduled meetings. This club is open to all Prairie Students!
